Horse dies after dirt bike chase

Youngsters on dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles allegedly chased wild horses near Stagecoach on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a stallion that broke its leg.

Neighbors in the area said juveniles riding motorcycles and an ATV drove toward a herd of mustangs Wednesday afternoon, scattering the animals.

Some of the horses jumped over a barbed-wire fence, but a stallion got tangled in the wire and broke its leg. A Lyon County sheriff's deputy later euthanized the horse with a bullet to its head.

"It was a bay stallion, and its right foreleg was attached by just a couple of tendons," said Willis Lamm, a wild horse advocate who was called to the area after the animal was hurt. "Witnesses said the horses were being chased by kids on dirt bikes and a quad." (click link above for the rest of the article)
